The Monthly Newsletter of the Lone Star Hunting Retriever Club

President’s Message:
The year is off to a hectic start for all, with the end of duck season and the beginning of hunt test season.  In February we had two very successful training days out in Wylie.  New club members attended these training days showing a great interest in turning their retrievers into hunting companions.  This year Lone Star is going to try and have one formal training day somewhere other than the training grounds.  This along with other informal training weekends in Wylie should round out our training efforts in style..

Now lets talk about our hunt test coming up on March 24th & 25th.  For those that don’t know, we are attempting to use a new program called HuntSecretary.com.  There are still some problems with the website but despite the fact that the website is not up and operational at this time, HuntSecretary.com is still doing all of our entries and all the other items they promised.  At this time you are not able to send your entries in over the internet or pay with a credit card.  If you are planning to run in Lone Star’s test in Bowie, you'll need to print out a premium from the HRC website and send it -  with a check to the Santa Fe, TX address that is on the premium.  The cut off date for being included in the program is March 15th.  We still have plenty of room, so please send your entries in as at this time.  If you do not get your entry in before the cut off date, you will then need to contact Sarah Krause to see if we still have room and send your premium to her.  Remember that all entries are on a first come basis. Walk ups are also an option IF spots are available.

Saturday March 3rd, I went out to Bowie to check out the water levels.  Bowie, like most of Texas, is very low on water.  When Dallas got all that rain a couple weeks ago, Bowie got very little.  We have water but not all that we are used to having out there.  Some ponds are full and others are very low or have no water in them at all.  There is a hunting slew on the back side of the property that we have never used before.  If we don’t get any rain between now and then we will have to use it.  On the land side of the test, we will not have any problems.

Now we need to  talk about  work assignments for the hunt test. I still need members to help with set up on Friday, break down on Sunday, marshaling Seasoned, & helping Jimmy cook.  We have the birds arranged for & porta-johns are being delivered on Friday, March 23rd.  Dale got the bird boys that we have had for the last several years.  So all and all it looks like we are off to a great start.

Also again this year we are having the Youth Hunt on Saturday afternoon.  This will be headed up by Gregg Kulesz.  If you have any questions please let Gregg or myself know.  On this event send your premium to Sarah Krause, 13520 Charcoal Lane, Dallas, TX 75234.  You can get an entry form for the youth hunt at www.LoneStarHRC.com .  Walk ups for this event will also be accepted.

Get those premiums soon to HuntSecretary.com and we will see you in Bowie.

Reminder for HRC Judges - the new rule book is out so it is time to take your Judges test.  You can take it from the HRC website.

See you at the line.

Kyle

Secretary’s Corner:

Hello Everyone.

Kyle having said most of what I was going to say, I will keep it short, sweet and to the point.  We still need entries for our hunt test!  Finished is coming along nicely, but Started and Seasoned need some entries.  If you are planning on running at our test, please print off the premium and send it to HuntSecretary.com in Santa Fe, Texas.  I know that some of you were waiting to see if you could pay by credit card, but we are not sure at this time when the website will be up and running.

Please contact Kyle if you want to help at our test.  If you have any questions regarding the hunt test entries, please contact me at sqkdogs@sbcglobal.net or at home by phone at 972-243-6380.  I want to thank everyone ahead of time for helping out at the test.

Please don’t forget that we have a club meeting on March 15, 2007 at Spring Creek BBQ on Preston Road at 7:00pm.  We will be talking about the hunt test and the workers.

See you at the meeting, if not before,

Sarah

Training Days
Training grounds in Wylie are available for members to use.  Please remember to lock the gate after you enter and when you leave.  Please remember not to drive to the back when the road is wet.  Before running your dogs, please look over the area you plan on training as there have been reports of cracks in the ground.  We do not want the dogs or members hurt.  Training days are normally on Saturday mornings starting around 8:00 AM.  Watch your e-mail for notification of members going out to train.

See Events page for more items.
