 Fetch!

The Monthly Newsletter of the Lone Star Hunting Retriever Club

President’s Message:
Well sorry for the delay in getting the Fetch out.  With trying to close out all the work from the hunt test, time got away from me.  It seems like all we have been talking about is the 21st annual Lone Star HRC hunt test, but we all need to remember that this is the clubs biggest event of the year.  Without the help of the club members, we would not have been able to pull it off.  I would like to start by saying thanks to the following people.  The judges that came out and spent their free time to support our club.  They all put on some really great tests.  Jimmy another outstanding job cooking.  Jimmy spends many weeks before and after the test preparing and cleaning up.  Orie and Teri took the job of Raffle chair and blew us away, GREAT JOB.  Now for the Marshals: Kevin, Wade, Mike, Mark K., Dave B., Bobby, David H., Mark T., and Seth.  Thank you all for the hard work done at the test sites and for making sure everything was going smoothly.  Thanks for the hard work Friday through Sunday.  This year Bobby “The Trash Man” took care of all the trash by hauling a trailer to the test and back to the Dump.  Thanks “Trash Man”!  This year our Game Stewards were John and Mike.  Thanks to the two of them getting to the test early every morning to make sure every test had fresh birds.  Our hunt secretary Sarah did a great job working hard weeks before and after.  I hope I did not forget anyone.  Big thanks go out to everyone that helped out.  Thanks again.

At this time Kevin Buckley is working on club training days.  These days will be held at different locations.  We are hoping to have one every month then there will be other training days out in Wylie also.  If you have any questions, please give Kevin or myself a call.

Seth Kelly is working on Lone Stars next event which will be the Top Dog.  This event will be held some time in June.  Look for more informational e-mails on this great day as soon as things get ironed out.

Since we are closing in on the middle of the year, we are starting to look for the next Executive Board for Lone Star HRC.  The Board holds a two year term and ours will be up on December 31st.  The positions that available are President, Vice President, Secretary, & Treasurer.  If you are interested or would like to nominate someone please contact Sarah.

See you at the line.

Kyle

Secretary’s Corner:
I would like to thank everyone that worked so hard before, during, and after the hunt test.  Without you, the test just wouldn’t have gone the way it did.  The weather was great for the most part.  A little windy on Saturday, but that didn’t stop us.  The sun was out most of the time, and with daylight savings time starting early this year, we got everything done and set-up just before dark.  I would like to take just a moment to thank a few people.  First I want to say thank you to Kyle.  I know just how hard he worked on this test, and if I do say so myself, he did an awesome job.  He put in a lot of time to get everything just right.  I would like to thank all the marshals and workers out in the fields.  Without you guys the test wouldn’t have run like it did.  We had a few new marshals who did an outstanding job.  There are a few people that shall remain nameless, but you know who you are, thank you so much for all the work you did.  Stacey Geckler and Cathy Cade helped me out at headquarters.  Most of you know that this was my first go at being the Hunt Test Secretary, and I thank these two ladies for their hard work and helping me when we really needed it.  Jimmy, you did an outstanding job as usual.  I overheard more people saying how good all the food was.  Its hearing just that, that makes you feel good.  And last but not least, thank you to Teri and Orie.  The raffle turned out better than any of us could have imagined.  For those of you that did not make this months meeting, the raffle at the hunt test brought in over $2,700.00 for the club.  It was amazing to see how many tickets were sold for the raffle.  Now if we can just get you two to do it again next year.  Thank you for letting me say all this.

See you at the meeting if not before,

Sarah

Hunt Test Secretary Message:
I don’t have that much to say here, as I said most of it above.  I would like to take just a moment to thank the judges that were at our test.  Some of them came from Oklahoma and some from down around Houston.  Thanks for coming to our 21st anniversary hunt test.

This year we did something a little different.  We used a web site called HuntSecretary.com.  This site was set up to take entries online.  You could pay for your entries by credit card or by sending in a check or cash.  This site really helped me out, seeing as I have never been Hunt Test Secretary before.  In the long run it was really nice.

On Saturday, there were 103 dogs entered in the hunt test.  Out of these 103 dogs, 69 of them passed the test.  Some did get titles, but we are not sure as to how many there were.  On Sunday there were 96 dogs entered.  Out of these 96 dogs, 64 of them passed, and some also received titles.

I would like to thank all the club members for allowing me to be the Hunt Test Secretary for 2007.  I enjoyed the experience.  I am a very proud member of Lone Star HRC.

Sarah Krause

Training Days
Lone Star HRC will be holding our first official training day on Sunday May 20th, 2007 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The location of the training day will be at John Wallace’s place which is located at:
14126 Rainbow Forney, Texas 75126
This training day will be for those who have ‘Started’ dogs. The definition of a ‘Started’ dog for the purpose of this training day is defined as: any dog ranging from a puppy all the way through making the transition into ‘Seasoned’. If you’d like to attend this training day please RSVP to Kevin Buckley at kevinwbuckley@tx.rr.com.

Training grounds in Wylie are available for members to use.  Please remember to lock the gate after you enter and when you leave.  Please remember not to drive to the back when the road is wet.  Before running your dogs, please look over the area you plan on training as there have been reports of cracks in the ground.  We do not want the dogs or members hurt.  Training days are normally on Saturday mornings starting around 8:00 AM.  Watch your e-mail for notification of members going out to train.
