President’s Message: I will start off with HRC’s National Meeting in Memphis, TN. The meeting started off Friday morning with the Judges & Handlers Seminar given by Ed Tibodeaux. At the conclusion of the seminar there were open forums with the Purina representatives and several of the HRC and UKC staff. Saturday was an all day Board of Directors meeting. There we discussed the future of HRC and how it is growing strong. Ernie Istre, the Grand Hunt Committee Chairman, let everyone know the upcoming Grand schedule: Sep. 22, 2007 Michigan; April 26, 2008 Georgia; Fall 2008 Iowa; Spring 2009 South Dakota. The meeting focused on introducing and voting on the new officers for HRC. At the national level the positions are: Jim Reichman - President, Mike Witt - Vice President, Carol Ford - Secretary, and Mike Dittrich, - Treasurer. All candidates were approved. The Lone Star HRC Top Dog went off without a hitch thanks to Seth Kelly. Seth did a great job preparing for this event. He got the grounds, prepared the running order, and got birds. The grounds we used this year were different from years past. We moved from Slate Rock Kennels to the Starford property. Bob and Donna were gracious enough to let the club members come out and run this test. With all the rain the pond was full so the Judges, Dale and John, were able to put a very fair but difficult test together. This year's Top Dog had a few new twists. We added a Top Seasoned Dog which was won by Duke Robertson and “Lil”. This years Top Finished Dog goes to last year’s winner, Chris Dodson and “Twister”. Congratulations go out to everyone that attended and ran a dog. All the dog work was great. A very BIG thank you goes out to Kathy McBride for preparing and cooking the lunch. Lone Star is working with Bass Pro to hold a Retriever Demonstration on August 5th. At this event we will need several Started, Seasoned, and Finished level dogs. This is something that Lone Star members have been doing since the Grapevine store has opened. The day at Bass Pro is fun for the whole family. A great time to talk with other members and future members of LSHRC about dog training and hunting. More info to follow. Seth is working on the Top Gun Shoot that will be held at Elm Fork Sporting Clays some time in late August. This is an event where the handler has to show off their skills in shooting; the dogs get to stay at home in the A/C. The best score wins the Top Gun. Due to all the rain, the training grounds in Wylie are still open to club members but you can not drive on the roads. The land owners have been trying to get out and mow but the ground has been so wet that they can not get the tractor in the field. I will let everyone know when the grounds have been cut. Hope you all had a fun and safe 4th of July. See you at the line. Kyle
