The Monthly Newsletter of the Lone Star Hunting Retriever Club

President’s Message:

Hopefully everybody had a safe and happy holiday.  We are now in the final stretch of waterfowl season and I’m sure that everybody is trying to cram in as much hunting as possible.  I know I am.  To say the least, this has been one of the more unusual seasons we’ve had for a while.  Although success has been hit or miss, and a few select alarm clocks have mysteriously malfunctioned, it seems that everybody has enjoyed it nonetheless.  Good luck to everybody for the remainder of the season.

With hunting season winding up, before we know it the spring hunt test season will be upon us.  It will be time to start preparing to step up to the line once again.  With John Wallace as our new Training Day Coordinator, there are sure to be some upcoming chances to get together and help each other out.  There will be plenty of hunt tests in the area this Spring.  I look forward to watching everybody compete as well as support the other local clubs.

Our own hunt test is fast approaching as well, March 15-16.  The test will be in Bowie again as it has been the past few years.  There is still plenty to do.  Kyle is once again working very hard as Hunt Test Chairman.  Becky Hansen has stepped forward to take on the task of Hunt Test Secretary.  Thanks to both of them.  We still need help from club members to volunteer and make this hunt test as successful as the years past.  Several people have already stepped up to help out, but there is much more to do.  One of the most important duties is the raffle chairperson.  Patty Collins has stepped up to the starting line to take this challenge on.  Many times the financial success of a hunt test rides on the success of the raffle.  We also need people to marshal, set-up, tear down, help serve food as well as many other miscellaneous tasks.  If you wish to help, please let Kyle or myself know.

One last item.  I’d like to thank everybody for their support in nominating myself and the other new Lone Star HRC board members.  The previous board and all of the LSHRC members have done a great job keeping this club successfully on the rise.  If we can keep things moving forward as well as they have, there is nothing before us but success.

Good luck to all.  See you in the field.

Seth Kelly

Please let me know if your dog(s) get titles or other awards so I can update the Recognitions Page with their accomplishments.

We are always looking for pictures to be submitted for Picture of the Month, pictures of your dog for the Portrait Page and pictures from hunt tests or hunts, and even training days.  Please send them to  bacade@tx.rr.com.  Also include a note as to what the picture is of, who is in the picture and who took the picture.  If you do not have a digital picture, you can send me a print and I will scan it.  Let me know if you want the picture back.  The address to send them to is:
