President’s Message:
The light at the end of the summertime tunnel is starting to get brighter.  That means hunting season and hunt tests are just around the corner.  Hopefully everybody has had a good summer.

LSHRC held our annual Top Gun event recently at Elm Fork Shooting Sports in Dallas.  Lots of people came out to shoot and everybody had a great time.  The format was a little different than years past due to availability of courses to shoot.  But this actually turned out for the better.  We shot 5 rounds of doubles from 5 stands on the new Elm Fork “Dove Field”.  Thanks to Kyle Krause for setting this up, Dale Flenthrope and Patty Collins for organizing lunch and to Mike and Diann Brackin for bringing their grill and helping cook.

Taking the Top Gun title this year was Niel Longgood.  Niel shot 43 out of 50 to edge out Don Smith for the title.  Don came in second with a score of 42.  Congratulations Niel.

Hunting season is upon us.  If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting for this since last Spring.  Good luck to all.  Please remember to be careful in the early parts of the season.  Snakes are still active and overheating of your dog can happen very quickly.  Our best friends can’t cool down as efficiently as us and overheating can occur before you know what’s happened.  Please be aware of the heat and keep yourself and your dogs safe.

Hunt test season is also here.  All of that hard work training over the summer is about to be put to the test.  There are plenty of tests nearby this fall.  A list of tests in the area are posted on our website.  I look forward to seeing everybody out and about helping support the other clubs.

And last but not least, LSHRC still has shotgun raffle tickets available.  We are raffling off a Beretta Xtrema 2 provided by McCelland Gun Shop.  Only 300 tickets will be sold.  More information can be found on the LSHRC website.  Click here for information.  If you’d like to buy some tickets, or get some tickets to sell, please contact any of the LSHRC Board of Directors.  The drawing will be held at the regular meeting on October 16th.  Proceeds will be used to upgrade our aging hunt test equipment.

Until next time, good luck to all.  See you in the field.

Seth Kelly
